Pilates & GYROTONIC®

Pilates has become a very popular method of exercise because of the amazing benefits clients have seen.   

Pilates will lengthen, strengthen and tone your muscles without the bulk.  In addition clients see an improvement in posture and balance.  Pilates is centered on strengthening your core. Along with a strong flat tummy, you will experience a decrease in back pain.  These series of exercises can be performed on the mat or on equipment where the tension is controlled by springs and your own body weight.  Pilates is being used more and more for rehabilitation and injury prevention.  In addition pilates is fun and challenging with many variations to keep you on your toes!

Pilates was created by Joseph H. Pilates.  Pilates, originally from Germany was a weak young boy interested in the body and gaining strength.  He studied anatomy and worked hard to become a strong man traveling as an acrobat.  Pilates created many of his exercises while in an internment camp in England during WWI (by looking at a cadillac today you can see the relationship to a hospital bed, with springs as resistance!)  He moved to New York and began teaching what he called "contrology" especially to dancers.  He dreamed of a pilates studio on every block of New York and now years after his death we are close!
